Celeste is a struggling mother of twin teenage girls, fighting to reunite her children after they were split apart in a bitter custody battle. While working as a country club waitress, she meets and marries Steven Beard, a man more than 40 years her senior that is worth millions. The marriage seemingly gives Celeste and her daughters Jennifer and Kristina a brief storybook life that is shattered by a late-night shotgun blast that leaves one of them dead and the others fighting over the truth of what really happened.
